Student Platelet Program: Bruins for Life (BFL)
Be screened today and join!
WHAT:
Bruins for Life (BFL) are students who are willing to donate platelets and other blood components on a regular basis. Platelets are the component of blood, which make it clot.
WHY:
Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center treats a large number of cancer patients, many of whom need platelet transfusions. BFL was formed as a response to this need.
- All BFL members will receive three movie or meal tickets at the time of each donation.
- Those who donate at certain levels will then receive a BFL sweatshirt.
- BFL members will receive one raffle ticket for every donation made and will participate in a recognition event, at the end of the academic year. Don't miss out on the fabulous prizes we'll be raffling.
- BFL members who recruit additional members will receive one raffle ticket per new donor.
- When possible, BFL donors will be scheduled to donate with other members.
WHO:
Eligible platelet donors need to have given blood at least one time, have a good vein, and have an appropriate platelet count. If you want to become a BFL today, the person doing your history will evaluate your veins.
HOW:
Donating platelets takes approximately two and one-half hours, during which you can watch a movie, surf the net, send email, etc from our e-Chair. Each time you donate, you enjoy Diddy Riese cookies. We are open for platelet donations Monday through Saturday.
Be assured that platelet donation is a completely safe process for you and life saving for the recipient. If you would like a detailed explanation of the donation process we would be happy to speak to you today, call (310) 206-6187 or email bfl@ucla.edu.
